This image was captured during a trip to Barcelona in May of 2013. We were walking on "Las Ramblas" which is about as fashionable and opulent a street as you will find in all of Europe, let alone Barcelona. Amidst all the "fancy" people strolling along for their afternoon shopping and café hopping sat this lone woman. A beggar, shielding all of her features except for her outstretched hand (and a lone wisp of hair hanging from beneath her scarf). I shot a few frames looking for the right angle. This is what I chose and converted it to B/W in Silver Effects Pro.
I submitted it for consideration in a contest whose theme was "Endangered". It was actually to benefit the Center For The Great Apes. My take was that we, as humans, are endangered as well. Apparently the judges thought so too. It was selected to hang during Art Basel week in Miami at Miami Club Rum. It sold! I'm happy!
